Shred Flintstone, the raddest band in the land, arrive fully formed on their full-length debut, They’re Not There. Album opener “I’m on the Parkway” best exemplifies the album’s themes: an undercurrent of anxiety and unease filtered through the exterior of catchy So-Cal-influenced punk rock. Standouts like “Doc Holliday”, “Happy Song”, “Dust Bunny” and “Bugging” channel the tweaker psychedelic summer punk of Wavves, the cosmic multi-color of The Apples in Stereo and Deerhunter, and the natural hooks of classic Blink-182. Bandleader Dan Barrecchia sounds like a tasty combination of Bradford Cox, Nathan Williams, and Tom Delonge.

They’re Not There distinguishes itself by paying homage to classic rock guitar gods like Jimi Hendrix and John Frusciante (see the awesome “Living the Life Avocado” in which Barrecchia’s guitar playing lives up to the band’s namesake). They’re Not There arrives just in time for summer and if you’re not blasting this album on the way to the beach, then you’re not doing Summer 2018 right and need to correct yourself immediately. Time to get shredded to Shred Flintstone.
