Hush Now
Last year The Hush Now took critics and fans by surprise with their melancholy ode to the holidays, “Wishing You A Happy Christmas.” Which although given the dark horse odds of a 1000 to 1 by the London Telegraph to surmount X-Factor’s hold, was also considered, “The loveliest recording of the season.” Well, The Hush Now went back to the trenches and emerged with a new seasonal gem that is sure to give Simon Cowell a run for his money.
“On Holiday,” a definite departure from last years effort, boasts a swinging Jobim-esque groove supported by a horn section that will have you hooked at first listen. The choruses open to a gallop with soaring vocals longing for a paradise far away from the usual holiday trappings. A place where you can drink, “martinis in the sun,” and “Ho Ho Ho and Rum tum tum.”
The single was recorded at Mad Oak Studios, Allston MA over the course of a day with Benny Grotto (The Dresden Dolls) at the helm and mastered by Jeff Lipton (Arcade Fire, Magnetic Fields), the same team behind the EP Shiver Me Starships.
